PHCS Scholarship Program

The 2021 HIGH SCHOOL scholarship program consists of  several awards:

Edward Dutra

Deolinda Dutra

PHCS Lionel Rocha Holmes

Joseph Souza Memorial

American Portuguese Club, Bob and Betty Dias Memorial


Requirements: Applicants must be a high school senior; be of Portuguese descent; achieve a GPA of 3.5 or better. The application should include an official grade transcript; at least one letter of recommendation (principal, counselor, teacher, employer, etc.); an essay regarding the applicant’s Portuguese community involvement and the impact of the applicant’s Portuguese heritage and culture on their life (300 words minimum).

Please note: Winners will receive scholarship check upon submitting proof of college enrollment by October 31, 2021.

Acceptable enrollment documents: certificate of enrollment, unofficial transcripts or receipt of paid enrollment. 

For the 2020 PHCS scholarship competition, applications were received from graduating high school seniors in northern California schools.  The winners and their awards are as follows:

–          $1000 John Mendonsa award
Natalia Holmes, El Camino Fundamental High School, Sacramento, CA
–          $500 PHCS award
Dillon Bunch, Durham High School, Durham CA
–          $500 Joseph Souza Memorial award
Candace Medeiros, Lincoln High School, Lincoln, CA
–          $500 American Portuguese Club, Bob and Betty Dias award
